- Go to your textbook companion site:
- Click the link for chapter web links
- Look at several of the links you think might be interesting
- Select one for which you want to do a report.
- If none of them look interesting to you, consider selecting one of
these instead:
- Write a brief summary of what you learned from reading the report.
You must have at least three specific statements of things you learned
(or found interesting). You must include both the name of the
reading and the URL in your summary.
- Post your summary on the class discussion board as a reply to the
appropriate thread.
- Read at least one of the summaries that your classmates have posted.
Reply to your classmate's summary with a list of at least two things you
found interesting about that summary. You must make an original
reply. Any replies that appear very similar to the replies of
another student will not receive credit. It would probably be best
to reply to a summary that does not have a reply to make certain that
your reply is unique.

At the end of the chapter, you will find a summary, review questions,
and discussion questions for the chapter. Read the summary, the
review questions, and discussion questions. Go to the class
discussion board. Click the thread for review/discussion/summary.
Read the postings of your classmates. YOU MAY NOT post the same
review question, discussion question or summary point as any of your
classmates.
- If you select a review question, you must state the question and then
answer it completely.
- If you choose a discussion question, you must state the question and then
answer it completely.
- If you choose a summary question, you must state the the summary point and
then expand on it. For example if you select summary 7 from chapter 1, you would answer
something like:
- Botany, the study of plants, apparently began with Stone Age peoples'
practical uses of plants. Eventually, botany became a science as intellectual
curiosity about plants arose. Botany is considered because the
scientific method which describes the procedures of assuming and testing
hypotheses, is used when studying botany.
Your posting must be accurate and must use good grammar. The
subject of your posting should be:
- review # OR
- discussion # OR
- Summary #
where # represents the number of the item.

FINAL PROJECT: FIELD TRIP
- Think about what you want to do for your final project.
There are many options. Here are some ideas. Don't be
limited by these possibilities.
- Plants for human consumption
- Plants for landscaping
- Gardens for fun and food
- Plants for sale
- Plants as presented by nature.
- Nature centers
- State/national parks
- Wetlands
- Think about were you could go to learn more about the topic of
your choice
- If you were interested in plants for human consumption you could
visit a produce store and a supermarket or an orchard or a U-pick
berry farm or even farmer's market.
- If you were interested in plants for landscaping, you could
contact a local landscape company or possibility a local building
supply store that also handled plants.
- If you were interested in gardens, you could attend meetings
from a local garden club or visit an arboretum or the gardens at a
local university.
- If you were interested in plants for sale, you could visit a
greenhouse, the garden center at a local building center or
supermarket, or even the farmer's market.
- For Plants as presented by nature contact the local parks and
recreation center and ask for a listing of what is available in your
area or contact the local state parks and recreation office.
- On the discussion board post what you think might be good topics
and good sources. You must post at least 3 possible topics and
three possible sources. Read any responses made by your
classmates.
- Try to narrow down your topics to one, because you will need to
write intension paragraphs for each topic.
- Write
- what topic you want to use for this field trip
- why you have selected this field trip.... specifically what do you
expect to learn about botany on this field trip.
- a outline of the MAJOR steps you will follow when you do this field
trip.
- List at least two places you might visit.
- List at least one source of information about this topic that
you can use BEFORE your field trip and to help you understand what
all you saw after the field trip.
- Save the paper you have written with your intentions as described
in Chapter 9's seed project.
- Upload this paper in the assignment area of your course in the
chapter 16 folder.
If you absolutely can not find a different field trip that you might use, you
may make a virtual fieldtrip to the Kellogg nature center
