World War I has been called The Great War but World War II was a truly global war. The conflict involved some 70 nations and was fought on the continents of Africa, Asia, and Europe as well as on the high seas. The human and economic costs of the war were staggering. Over 60 million fatalities occurred including the annihilation of six million Jewish people. A study of World War II and the Holocaust is fundamental to understanding the history of the 20th century and the outlook for the new millennium.
