BIOLOGY 99

PERIODIC TABLE AND CHEMICAL BONDS

There is a lot of order in the seemingly complex and diverse world of chemistry.  Fortunately for us, chemists of the past have figured out the order and the relationships among all the elements and their atoms.  Those relationships and therefore the properties of each element are conveniently depicted in the periodic chart. The periodic chart can tell us lots of information (more than we need) including the atomic number, atomic mass and the type of chemical bond that is likely to occur between two atoms.

The following links will help in learning some of the basic ideas of chemistry that are important to biology.
