COVALENT COMPOUNDS

Substances in which the atoms share electrons and are held together by covalent bonds are called covalent compounds.  From the view point of biology covalent molecules tend to be stable in water and do not "fall apart" like ionic compounds.  Also many covalent molecules store energy that can be released in living cells to carry on the functions and work of being alive.

The following links have helpful information and illustration of covalent bonds
